The career of a Fleet Air Arm aircraft handler

Phil Macquaid was an aircraft handler in the Navy in the 1960s and 70s. His job was to move planes and helicopters on and around the decks of aircraft carriers.

During his first tour of duty aboard HMS Centaur in 1963 Macquaid discovered the broad scope of the Royal Navy's role. His ship was involved with the harrowing job of picking up those who drowned during a passenger liner disaster and aiding in Royal Marines deployed to action in Tanganyika. Not the average work of an aircraft handler.
