New kinds of submarines
A Submarine Development Committee formed in May 1915 to consider the Royal Navy's future policy for submarine design. There was a decision to continue with the existing coastal and overseas types of boats, as these were the main submarines used in the war effort. In addition, suggestions for ‘fleet' submarines and monitors with large naval guns were also put forwards.
