Reads: "My dear Bayly. Just a line from an old friend to congratulate you on the well-deserved distinction your important and trying services have elicited from the fountain of honour. Hoping soon to have the pleasure of seeing you there again and of.." (end of page). As Captain of HMS Aurora in China in 1900, Bayly was Senior Naval Officer at Tientsin during the Boxer Rebellion, and was awarded the C.B.
