Diving Officer's Certificate belonging to W.D.Barrington, 23rd Sept 1946.
*This certificate for a diving officer looks routine, but is actually very rare. When W.D. Barrington received it in 1946 there were only a handful of men qualified as deep divers, and it was an experimental role. The navy's deep divers were known as 'steamers', divers who cleared mines at shallower depths were 'corkheads'.* From the Royal Naval Museum's collection of papers relating to W.D. Barrington.
