Midshipman Sheppard's Journal
This gallery has entries from two journals kept by Midshipman Charles Sheppard during the 1920s. Sheppard was a midshipman on various ships, including HMS Valiant, HMS Eagle, HMS Wren, HMS Dartmouth, HMS Despatch and HMS Resolution. This period of service enabled Sheppard to sail to various foreign ports, including Malta, Algiers and Beijing, and the journals cover the time he spent there.
Midshipman’s Journal of Charles Sheppard
A journal kept by Midshipman Charles S Sheppard during his service on HMS Valiant, HMS Harrow and HMS Eagle on the Mediterranean station, and HMS Dartmouth and HMS Despatch on the China station between 28th May 1925 and 16th February 1927. The entries are illustrated with charts and diagrams, and kept in a standard issue journal for the use of Junior Officers afloat. The selected extracts include: A map of the second Summer and Winter cruise of HMS Valiant in 1925. A diagram of a four star shell, 1925-26. A diagram of lifting and traversing gear, 1925-26.
