Naval personnel are required to spend long periods away from their families. This has a major impact on those left behind. They need to cope with the pain of separation and the difficulties of communication as well as developing routines and practical skills to maintain a home and family life without the support of their loved one. Homecomings can be joyful but also full of tensions as the family readjust to a different routine.
