HMS Sovereign Crew at North Pole
A photograph of three crew members from the submarine HMS Sovereign at the North Pole. The submarine's conning tower protrudes through the ice in the background. HMS Sovereign surfaced at the geographical North Pole as part of Operation Brisk on 20th October 1976. The exercise tested the submarine's navigational and operational capabilities in such temperatures.
