Interwar: Fleet Air Arm
How did the Fleet Air Arm develop between the World Wars?
The establishment of the RAF on the 1st April 1918 was to dominate the inter-service politics of the Inter-War period. As the Admiralty wrestled for control of naval aviation, the Navy gained very little in terms of airplane production or adequately trained personnel. Although further developments continued in terms of carrier design and operating techniques the interwar period is characterised by political wrangling, frugality and frustration.
