Group photograph of an RNSM band who were sent to Gallipoli in January 1916.
Winston Churchill ordered a Royal Marine Band to serve with the men of Drake Battalion of the Royal Naval Division in Gallipoli. The band, however, were ordered not to take their instruments, instead they served as stretcher-bearers and medical orderlies. This picture was taken of them on their return explaining their tired and haggard appearances.
